After the success of the RoboCop movie in 1987, Ocean Software and Data East released RoboCop for the NES in 1989. The NES video game is a port of the arcade version released a year prior. This retro Nintendo Entertainment System title loosely follows the plot of the movie, and over the course of six levels, youll take the fight to villains like Clarence Boddiker and corporations like O.C.P. This version of the RoboCop story adds new elements such as new foes not seen in the film. RoboCop for the NES is a video game in the action genre. As RoboCop, you will traverse from left to right, defeating all enemies in your path. Your primary weapons are your Auto 9 semi-automatic pistol and your fists. Due to RoboCops programming, he cannot open fire on any unarmed assailants. For these portions of the game, you will be punching out any villains you come across, but as soon as a gun is drawn, RoboCop will not hesitate to draw his weapon. It is this combination of melee and gunplay that keeps players on their toes. RoboCops Auto 9 is not the only gun he can wield. At various points in the game, he will use the Cobra Assault Cannon, the same powerful weapon first seen at the end of the RoboCop film. RoboCop has two health bars to monitor always. The first is a standard health bar that depletes when enemies damage you by touching or shooting you. To replenish your health, you will need to find jars of baby food, which is another nod to the movie. The second bar is RoboCops energy bar, which constantly depletes through normal gameplay. By finding batteries in the environment, you can restore this bar back to full power.
